A note from the our Career Development Representatives:

We are passing along a request from the BMC/HC Bi-College Career Development Office (CDO), which is looking for more Extern Sponsors, particularly in the fields of International Affairs, Business, Communications, Public Policy and Medicine. If you are interested — or have friends or classmates whom you can encourage to participate – the CDO would consider this very helpful. For the Winter break option, the extern opportunities will be “advertised” among students beginning on Monday, October 23. Selections will occur on Nov. 6 & 7. CDO does the selections for Spring Break Externships in early February.

For more information and to register for the program, alumnae/alumni can go to the following link: Externship Overview. We hope you will give this some consideration.

We invite you to participate in the EXTERN PROGRAM for Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. This program is an especially beneficial way for students to gain first-hand exposure to career fields of interest. By shadowing professionals in their workplace, students can begin to explore their interests and learn about various opportunities. Your advice and guidance in this shadowing experience will help a student to begin to identify potential career options.

The Extern Program is offered two different times of the year: Winter Break and Spring Break. Both are popular time periods for students and sponsors. The Winter Break offering provides for greater flexibility in length and structure of an externship; you could develop an experience for 2 days to 2 weeks. Spring Break, a period of one week, allows for 2-5 day opportunities. Your work schedule may be more suited to an offering in one or both seasons. The choice is yours.

Selection of the student externs will be held at two separate times: mid-November for the Winter Break offerings, and early-February for the Spring Break offerings. After assignments are made in November and February, we will send notification of student assignments and the extern will contact you directly to make specific arrangements.

If you would like to serve as an Extern Sponsor for either or both time frames, please complete and return the questionnaire as soon as possible; externship selection begins on November 6. You can complete this form on-line here, or send by fax 610-896-4230. To assist you in planning the externship, some suggestions in sponsoring an extern are on the reverse side of the questionnaire. If you have questions, please feel free to give me a call at 610-896-1181.

Thank you very much for considering assistance to Bryn Mawr and Haverford students.
