Thursday, May 3rd: Maria Koutroubaki Shaw, Professor of Art History and Archaeology, University of Toronto, who received her M.A. and Ph.D. from BMC, will address the Classical Art Society of the Art Institute in Morton Auditorium at 6:00 P.M. Her topic will be “Wall paintings in the Aegean in the Second Millennium, B.C.: Illustrations of Magnificent Aegean Patterned Textiles Used for Dress and House Decor and Their Export to Egypt.” (There will be a reception at 5:30 P.M.) The lecture is open to the public at no charge.
Thursday, June 14th: Prof. Jim Wright, Chairman of the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr, will give a lecture at 6:00 P.M. at the Hellenic Museum, 801 W. Adams St., 4th Floor. His topic will be: “Putting on the Ritz: Feasting and Society in Prehistoric Greece.” The lecture is co-sponsored by the Chicago Society of the Archaeological Institute of America and the Hellenic Museum.
Admission for members of the Hellenic Museum and the A.I.A. is $5.00, for others $10.00.
Our own Patty Gerstenblith who is Chairman of the Cultural Property Legislation and Policy Committee of the Archaeological Institute of America was awarded the Martha and Artemis Joukowsky Distinguished Service Award of the A.I.A. at the 2007 annual meeting in San Diego. Patty teaches in the Law School of DePaul University.
